Spend the day in Greece on the charming island of Meis. Also known as Castellorizo, this island is the easternmost island in all of Greece, but just 6 kilometers from the Kas harbor. You’ll swim in the natural wonder of the Blue Grotto and still have plenty of time to wander the picturesque streets
You’ll swim in the natural wonder of the Blue Grotto and still have plenty of time to wander the picturesque, shop-lined streets. With only a few hundred permanent residents, Meis is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing day, in a whole other country!
Our international day on the sea starts at 10:00 from the Kas harbor. After just a 30 minute boat ride, we’ll reach the colorful houses and crystal clear shores of the island of Meis. But first, the magic of the Blue Grotto awaits us on the southeastern side of the island. From outside it may not look like much, but once you swim through the 1 meter high entrance, you’ll be in awe as the morning sunlight dances on the water, transforming it into an otherworldly shade of turquoise blue. The atmosphere inside this 50 meter long cave really is something magical and if we’re lucky we might even see the cave’s local residents, Mediterranean monk seals! After a nice, long swim you’re sure to have worked up an appetite. We’ll have a tasty barbeque lunch on the boat before heading to the town center.
The town of Castellorizo, named ‘Crimson Castle’ by the Italians who once occupied the island, is a quiet, charming Greek fishing village. You’ll take as much time as you’d like exploring the shops and cafes lining the streets. Try a strong Greek drink or snag a unique souvenir, or just soak up the Mediterranean sun; it’s all up to you. The island is full of endless surprises: beautifully constructed churches, the local museum, and of course the namesake of the island, the fortress, are definite must-sees. Since this is a private tour, you’re free to decide on your own time of departure. We recommend staying long enough to enjoy some classic Greek seafood in one of the local restaurants. You’ll then return to Kas amidst the soothing sound of the waves and the rich colors of the setting sun.
